what kind of Indian tribe lived in Buffalo Texas?
I just want to know!!
The area where Buffalo (sometimes Blue Star), Texas now stands was the home of the Wichitas, first named Ouitchitaws by French explorers.
They are a Caddoan people, originally numbering perhaps 13,400 when combined with their relatives the Caddo, Tawakoni, Waco and some related small tribes. A small number of their descendants still live in the area.
Unlike the Comanches the Wichitas lived in semi-permanent villages of huts made from wooden frames covered in dry grass, like an all-over thatch.
For details of the Wichitas and their relatives, a history of their move from Kansas and pictures of their grass lodges, see
